Jake Marsh

NEWPORT, Vt. — Jake Raymond Marsh, 54, of Island Pond, died suddenly in Newport on Feb. 26, 2010, after a year long fight with cancer.

He was born Aug. 30, 1955 in Rochester, N.H., a son of Fred Marsh, Sr. and Wanita (Hussey) Marsh. He graduated from Farmington High School, Farmington, N.H. in 1973. In his teens, he achieved an Advanced general ham radio license. He attended Franklin Pierce College, Portsmouth, N.H. He received certificates from the Sylvania Technical School in Waltham, Mass, NRI Correspondence Schools, and the American Institute for Computer Science. He worked for Corning Costar Corporation in Kennebunk, Maine, as an electronics and software engineer, Vermont Creative Software in Richford, Vt., as their director of development, and the Goodrich Fuel and Utilities Systems Division in Vergennes, Vt., as a systems software test engineer.

From 2003-2007, he was the founder, president and CTO of Island Pond Wireless. He worked briefly for Fairpoint Communications and MyROW International Inc.

Among the hobbies he enjoyed were hunting, fishing, camping, organic gardening, computers and programming. Jake was particularly skilled at deer hunting with several trophy bucks to his credit. Most of all, Jake enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends while pursuing these hobbies. He was a valued member of "hunting camp," where his memory will never die and his stories will bring laughter for generations to come. Jake loved all and asked nothing in return. For this reason, he was, and is, loved by many.

He is survived by the love of his life, business partner, and best friend, Holly Bonville of Island Pond; two sons, Matthew Marsh of Farmington, N.H., Dylan Marsh of Saco, Maine; two grandsons, Michael and Blake of Farmington, N.H.; his brothers and sisters, Wanda Badger of Corning, Iowa, David Marsh of N.H., Dennis Marsh of Coos Bay, Ore., Fred Marsh of Rochester, N.H., and Arlene Baker of Afton, Okla.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Krystina Marsh.

A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Should friends desire, contributions in his memory may be made to the Burlington Hope Lodge at www.cancer.org. Online condolences may be sent through the funeral home website at www.curtis-britch-converse-rushford.com.
