Trail Report #6, Winter 2009-2010
The snow conditions this week have not improved much. There has been 3”-4” of snow but it is very light and doesn’t help add much to the base. It will provide cooling and lubrication but not much else. Our groomer operators have been out and tried to smooth the trails as best they can. Some areas are very thin – near gravel – and other areas have better coverage. You’ll travel over bad areas to get to good areas. Some stretches are longer than others. We urge everyone to ride with caution because the poor sections of trail can come up fast. Plus there are no snow banks on the trail edges to keep you on the trail. Once off the trail there may be deeper snows. There is no snow in the five day forecast although the continued cold weather will certainly help keep what snow we have.
This year, there is a logging operation on the Paul Stream Road between Brown’s Mill and the Paul Granby camp – a section of the 98 trail. Please remember that the speed limit on State of Vermont lands and many of the surrounding properties is 35 mph. There are those out there that would like to ban snowmobiling especially on state and federal lands and any excuse will do.
