Trail Report #1 Winter 2014-2015
Well the snowmobile season is upon us. Unfortunately, there isn’t much snow. Our trails are ready and we’re waiting like everyone else. The heavy snow of last week hit other parts of Vermont but NOT the northeast kingdom. It is critical at this time of year to build a good base and that takes time. Although there is some snow cover the ground beneath has no frost and thus even light travel pretty much wears out the snow cover. Conditions vary from poor, to fair, to good on each of these trails and vary by location and underlying terrain, there is no consistency. At this point our objective is to build a good base, cover rocks and normal trail debris. Also wet areas are not frozen. Hopefully the newly packed base will have the opportunity to freeze up and work frost into the ground, then we can begin to groom if and when new snow arrives. F-98 and F-2 have not been opened yet.
