Trail Report #4 Winter 2016-2017

Trail conditions have changed quite a bit this week. Anyone out riding earlier this year (thru January 8th) knew that the trails were good for early season riding. There were the usual water bars, rocks/stump issues but overall we had a good base and there was snow for lubrication and cooling. However, this week we have been experiencing unseasonably warm weather. For example, it was 45 degrees on Tuesday and remained well above freezing through Thursday. Plus, there were scattered rain showers (heavy rain at times) and the wind blew hard. The softening of trails with possible blowdowns is the consequence. Grooming has not been taking place. The chance of snow at the end of this week is 40% but it is supposed to turn colder. It will likely result in icy trails and reopened wet areas with water bars being more pronounced. The long weekend conditions do not look promising. :( :(
