Trail Report #12 Winter 2016-2017 Early the Week of 3/6/2017

There has been no significant snow in the north country over the past week despite the sub-freezing temperatures of the past week end. There has been high wind and blowing snow with some drifting but nothing sticking to the trails consistently. All trails with southern exposure were seriously damaged with last week’s warm temperatures and rain. Similar weather is expected again in the middle of this week. Because of the varied trail conditions be aware that all hazards are not marked. Some specifics: From state road Route 105 at Stone Dam travelling south to Bloomfield/No Stratford is accessible off VAST 102 S at EX50 on F-102E. VAST 102S is closed from EX 50 to EX 49 due to a wash out from a stream crossing. F-102E to Bloomfield/No Stratford is not accessible from EX 49 on 102S. 98S is open at Dennis Pond Parking and to EX 49 on to EX 40. The DC line is open but again southern exposures are icy and/or bare. VAST 1 S is open from EX 401 to the Roost and on to EX 523 but marginal beyond that junction. F98 is closed from EX 532 to EX 75 as is F2 from town to EX 64 due to lack of snow.

Again trail conditions are changing daily. Be prepared.

The Equine parking area off Maidstone Lake Road has a large number of logs stacked on trailers as well as a piece of logging equipment. The parking area nearest the Maidstone Lake Access road is not usable as a result. The “back” parking area has been plowed and the trail from the parking area to Paul Stream Rd has be groomed. The gate at Brown’s Mill is open and a limited amount of parking is available at that location. Paul Stream Rd is a snowmobile ONLY trail. Other parking areas at Dennis Pond access and Stone Dam are open and maintained regularly but only when snowmobile trailers and trucks are not present. Use of these areas is one’s own risk. Please be courteous and park so others can use the areas as well. As a reminder Fishing Accesses are only for those enjoying the sport of fishing. Snowmobilers who are enjoying trail riding and not actually ice fishing risk having their equipment towed from these areas.
