Trail Report #13 Winter 2016-2017 Late the Week of 3/20/2017
There has been significant snow (~12”) from the big storm of March 13-14. All of our trails are open and the riding is okay. Groomer operators have been out and last week packet the snow. This week they have been smoothing and massaging the snowfall. Conditions are good but riders are reminded that trail conditions can change from section to section. Some trails have no buffer on the edges and the ditches are very deep. Snow off the edge of the trails is very deep!! The trail around Guildhall is variable with the usual conditions of thin snow cover. Remember that two weeks ago the village trails were closed due to lack of snow. Other trails with southern exposures such as on the DC power line had no snow two weeks ago and therefore the cover now is limited. The usual obstacles of stumps, rocks, water, etc are still there and most likely covered by minimal amounts of snow.
Again trail conditions are changing daily. Be prepared.
PARKING AREAS:
The Equine parking area off Maidstone Lake Road has a large number of logs stacked on trailers as well as a piece of logging equipment. The parking area nearest the Maidstone Lake Access road is not usable as a result. The “back” parking area has been plowed and the trail from the parking area to Paul Stream Rd has be groomed. The gate at Brown’s Mill is open and a limited amount of parking is available at that location. Paul Stream Rd is a snowmobile ONLY trail. Other parking areas at Dennis Pond access and Stone Dam are open and maintained regularly but only when snowmobile trailers and trucks are not present. Use of these areas is one’s own risk. Please be courteous and park so others can use the areas as well. As a reminder Fishing Accesses are only for those enjoying the sport of fishing. Snowmobilers who are enjoying trail riding and not actually ice fishing risk having their equipment towed from these areas.
