Trail Report #1 Winter 2017-2018 Early the Week of 1/6/2018

There has been some snow in the north country over the past week despite the sub-freezing temperatures of the past week. The dry snow is hard to pack but once the groomer packs it, it is very hard. Some have suggested scratchers for added cooling and lubrication. With the snow of Thursday there has been high wind resulting in blowing snow with some drifting. All trails have been groomed and are in decent shape. Because we are early in the season, there are still obstacles such as rocks and stumps in the trails in our wooded sections. Until we receive more snow these will be close to the surface and may be hidden by light snow cover. Again trail conditions are changing daily. Be prepared. The logging operation that was occurring on the 98 trail along the Paul Stream Road has been finished and all equipment has been removed. The Paul Stream Road has been closed to wheeled vehicle traffic and the gates closed. A small logging operation is occurring between EX524 and EX521 on Trail 3 and will last all winter long. It is clearly marked.
